AFTERCARE

After your tattoo your artist will tell you how to best look after your new addition. However, in general we recommend:

  • Remove the bandage within 3-6 hours after getting your tattoo.

  • Wash your hands and then wash the tattoo and surrounding area with a non-perfumed liquid soap and your hand (no cloth or sponge). Pat dry with clean paper towels.

  • Before the tattoo can completely airdry, cover it immediately with the clean side of cling film. If possible use microporous tape to secure it, otherwise wrap it completely around the area. The next morning, remove cling film for the final time and re-wash.

  • Pat your tattoo dry with paper towels and once it is dry apply a very thin layer of ointment to your tattoo. We recommend Easy Tattoo, however, you can also use Bepanthen. Repeat this 2-3 times a day for the first week, and the following week 1-2 times a day.

  • Wear clean, soft clothing (not wool) over your tattoo for the first couple weeks to avoid irritating the area.

  • Your tattoo will begin to peel and will become itchy which is perfectly normal. Do not pick the skin. You can then also use a mild unscented lotion such as cocoa butter. Use lotion for minimum of 2 weeks.

  • In the first few days swelling and bruises may occur. This is normal.

WHAT TO AVOID

  • Do not pick, scratch, peel or rub your tattoo

  • Do not soak your tattoo for minimum 2 weeks (No swimming, saunas, baths etc). Showering is perfectly fine.

  • Do not expose your tattoo to the sun (or sunbeds) for at least 4 weeks. Afterwards to take extra care of your tattoo you should use high factor sunscreen for at least the first year.

  • Do not wear anything abrasive against your tattoo whilst it is healing. Also avoid wool.

  • Do not use the gym for at least the first week.

  • Afterwards be cautious when exercising - ensure to clean equipment before, and clean tattoo after sessions.

  • Do not let anyone touch your tattoo unless they wash their hands.

  • Do not shave or wax the tattooed area.

  • Do not use any cream other than what we recommend.

If you have any questions at all please call us on 0208 018 1832 or pop into the studio.
